Una merceria, in Spanish, means a haberdasher—a store selling buttons, needles, and threads. Toronto’s La Merceria—cuter than any button—is a petite and sunshiny café and décor shop, weaving together the rustic and the refined, the cozy and the chic. La Merceria--the sort of place you might discover in Buenos Aires’ ever-stylish Palermo neighbourhood--owes its warmth and charms to owners and couple Sandra Rojas-Chinni (who hails from Colombia) and Marcelo Chinni (from Argentina).

Sandra affectionately curates the shop with infallibly stylish finds for the home. The newest treasure: an in-house collection of enamel mugs and kettles washed in gentle shades of bunny grey. Also a café, La Merceria celebrates “daily pleasures”; among those placeres cotidianos: café con leche, sugar-drizzled alfajores, hand-made and oven-gilded Argentinian empanadas and toothsome torta pasqualina. Bienvenido y buen provecho!
